About Spencer

Hi.

I’m Spencer (he/him), and I’m a therapist for offbeat clients.

When something about your life doesn’t fit the norm, seeking out connections can be that much more nerve-wracking. If you’ve spent much of your life feeling different, you might question whether you are even worthy of the same care and compassion that other people seem to find. And even if you feel secure within yourself, simply navigating life without the benefit of a roadmap is its own type of challenge.

I became a counselor because I know how liberating it is to be able to make meaningful choices for your life, the way you want to live it. My own journey to self-discovery inspired me to try to become the support I wish I’d had: compassionate and accepting, warm and curious, and authentic. I want to be on your team, even if you’re not on it yet.

You are welcome here, just as you are. I serve the nonmonogamous, polyamorous, and LGBTQ+ communities with acceptance, as well as personal and professional knowledge and experience. Got squirrels instead of an attention span? I’m a certified ADHD Clinical Services Provider and am no stranger to the ways neurospicy brains can act up. Trying to figure out how to exist as a person during a global polycrisis when it feels like the old world is dying? I’ve got space for that too. Let’s take that journey together.

I chose the name Prism Counseling because I believe, beneath the surface, we all carry a rainbow of vibrant parts. You are more than a singular ray of light. If you’ve felt stuck as a dull shade of yourself, I’d love to work with you, because you deserve to live your life in full color.

Who is Spencer?

Outside of the therapy office, I’m a parent, partner, and neighbor. I play hobby board games and tinker with electronics and computers. I love hiking and camping, riding my bicycle, listening to thought-provoking podcasts, and reading. I value my community, and spend a lot of time thinking about how we can make a kinder, more just world.

I’m most satisfied when I live in alignment with my values of empowerment, agency, and compassion.

Therapy with me starts with acceptance.

There is no pretense here. You can show up exactly as you are—whatever you’re carrying is welcome. And yes, since you’re wondering, you can swear in therapy.

We’ll start by understanding the problems that are bringing you in and building a roadmap for our work. After that, we’ll get to work, learning and practicing the skills that will help you live a full-color life.
